192.168.o.1.1 IP Address Login and Administration

Typing mistake by people while writing an IP

An IP address is a sequence of numbers that are separated by period and is used to distinguish between different computers on the network. There are two standards of an IP address that are IPv4 (Internet Protocol version 4) and IPv6 (Internet Protocol version 6). IP (Internet Protocol) is used to locate the address of the network and to identify the network.

The IPv4 standard is always of 32 bits. These 32 bits is broken down into 4 sets of eight octets (8 * 4 = 32) and each of which is separated by a dot. An IP address always consists of numbers and it can never have letters nor can an IP have 5 sets. The IPv6 standard is used to identify the interface of the network. IPv6 is considered as the successor of IPv4. As compared to IPv4, IPv6 has 128 bits.

The IP address 192.168.o.1.1 is an invalid IP and people by mistake type the IP address as 192.168.o.1.1, there is a 0 instead of o in the IP address as explained earlier, an IP address can never have letters and even the IP address is invalid and the correct one is This IP is a private IP of the standard IPv4 so there cannot be 5 sets because IPv4 has 32 bits which is divided into 4 sets of eight octets and hence is also invalid.

So in this article we are going to tell that how the people are depending on their screen resolutions and they may mistake an o for a 0. The windows has a weird thing like when you are at the terminal, occasionally the font looks weird to you and that is why the people make mistakes easily and 0 and o are often looks the same to them. Most of the time people are not paying attention when they are typing and this is the honest truth and they don’t go back to check their work. The IP address 192.168.o.1.1 sometimes often comes out to be a case of fat finger like you strike two keys at the same time with one finger and it is just like when you text and it comes out to be wrong. The people should realize that there is no standard in the work force where they have to use an o (a letter) in the IP address.

The reason why the IP is invalid is because there is a confusion between which the actual IP address is: a 0.1 or a 1.1. And it is the person who is not paying attention to his work. And one more number is added when the actual IP is of four sets and also it’s a letter instead of number.

To stop mistakes like that the IPv6 standard has stopped its alphanumeric at “F”. The military also mitigates this issue by putting the line through the 0 to make a clear definition between a 0 and an o. double checking your work is very important while writing IP address like crossing “T” and dotting the IP etc. You should double check and test your work when writing an IP to avoid an embarrassment with a client you might be working for.
